W&L Field Hockey Bows to Denison University, 3-1

SALISBURY, Md. -- The Washington and Lee field hockey team dropped its second game of the day, 3-1, to Denison University at the Salisbury Tournament in Salisbury, Md.

Denison (3-2) scored three first-half goals to open up an insurmountable lead. Jennifer Lacey got the Big Red on the board when she scored with 33:34 remaining in the first.

The Big Red's Kelsey Ill then scored the first of two goals on the day with 29:10 remaining. Ill added another with 12:40 remaining in the half, making the score 3-0.

W&L (1-2) got on the board when freshman midfielder Jane Beall (Midlothian, Va./James River) scored her second goal of the tournament with 8:25 remaining in the match. Sophomore forward Meredith Walker (Travelers Rest, S.C./Christ Church Episcopal) registered the assist.

Freshman goalie Elise Gelinas (Rosemont, Pa./Agnes Irwin) got the start in the W&L cage, making two saves in 35 minutes of play. Fellow freshman goalie Courtney Harrison (Richmond, Va./Collegiate Boys School) played the second half, recording two saves.

Sarah Robator stopped eight shots for the Big Red, who were outshot by W&L, 13-7.

The Generals wrap up play in the Salisbury Tournament Sunday morning at 11:15 am against host Salisbury.
