W&L Women's Basketball Falls To Randolph-Macon, 74-59

ASHLAND, Va. – The Washington and Lee women's basketball squad slipped to 10-12 overall, 7-10 in the ODAC with a 74-59 setback at Randolph-Macon on Saturday afternoon in the Crenshaw Gymnasium.

The Yellow Jackets (11-12, 10-8) grabbed an 18-8 lead seven minutes into the game and extended their lead to 13 points (37-24) at halftime.

Randolph-Macon began the second half on a 12-4 run to open up its largest advantage of the afternoon at 21 points (49-28). However, the Generals chipped the Yellow Jacket lead to eight points with 8:29 to play after going on a 15-2 run over a six minute span.

Following a timeout, the Yellow Jackets put the game out of reach by scoring five straight points for a 13 point lead.
The Generals were led by senior forward Jessica Mentz (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) who tallied game-highs with 28 points and 17 rebounds. Senior center Megan Babst (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) also recorded a double-double with 21 points and 13 boards.

Three players from Randolph-Macon reached double figures in points led by Megan Mariani who totaled 17. Lindsay Carroll added 15 points and seven assists, while Allison King chipped in with 12 points and five rebounds.

W&L returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts Emory & Henry for a 6:00 pm game.
