W&L Women's Basketball Falls At Eastern Mennonite, 66-54

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Eastern Mennonite sprinted out to a 35-18 halftime lead and cruised to a 66-54 victory over Washington and Lee in ODAC women's basketball action on Wednesday evening at University Commons.

The Royals grabbed their first double-digit lead of the night (26-15) on a layup from Jenny Cline with 3:15 to play in the first half. A 9-3 run to close the first half provided EMU with its 17-point margin at the break.

EMU (11-10, 7-9 ODAC) held its double-digit lead until W&L senior forward Jessica Mentz (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) nailed a jumper with with 10:47 to play that cut the lead to eight points (45-37). From there, EMU went on a 7-2 run over the next 2:30 to assume a 52-39 advantage with 8:00 to play.

The Generals (10-11, 7-9) were paced by senior guard Sarah Schmidt (Topeka, Kan./Hayden) who tallied a team-high 14 points, including four three-pointers. Senior center Megan Babst (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) notched a double-double with 10 points and 18 rebounds, while Mentz chipped in eight points and 14 boards.

EMU was led by Cline who scored a career-high 21 points and grabbed five rebounds. Emily Misak recorded a double-double with 17 points and 11 boards, while Emily Mullett tallied 11 points for the victors.

W&L returns to action when it travels to Randolph-Macon for a 4:00 pm game on Saturday.
