W&L Women's Basketball Defeats Shenandoah, 65-45

LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee women's basketball team connected on 17-of-22 (.773) shots in the second half and evened its overall record at 10-10 with a 65-45 victory over non-conference foe Shenandoah on Sunday afternoon at the Warner Center.

The Generals, who held a one-point halftime lead (22-21), still clung to the one-point advantage (26-25) three minutes into the second half. However, W&L used a 27-9 run over the next nine minutes of play to break open a 53-34 lead. The Generals pushed their advantage to as many as 25 points in the second half in cruising to the 20-point victory.

W&L (10-10) senior forward Jessica Mentz (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) recorded game-highs in points (29) and rebounds (14). Senior center Megan Babst (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) tallied 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the victors.

Shenandoah (4-15) was led by sophomore center Shannda Gaskins (Falls Church, Va./McLean) who notched 14 points and 13 boards.

For the game, the Generals shot 48.1 percent and held the Hornets to 38.0 percent shooting.

W&L returns to action when it travels to Eastern Mennonite for a game at 7:00 pm on Wednesday evening
