SALEM, Va. – The eighth-seeded Washington and Lee men's basketball team had its season ended with a 69-36 loss to top-seeded Randolph-Macon in the ODAC Quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon at the Salem Civic Center.
The Yellow Jackets assumed a 10 point lead eight minutes into the contest. Randolph Macon extended its lead to 12 points with three minutes left in the first stanza, however, the Generals managed to cut their deficit to eight points at halftime.
Randolph Macon began the second half by scoring the first six points to claim a 16 point lead. From that point, W&L never cut the Yellow Jacket lead under 13 points the remainder of the game.
W&L was led by freshman forward Mike Stuart (Warrenton, Va./Faquier) who totaled 13 points, two rebounds and two steals. Freshman center Mark Franceski (Moscow, Pa./North Pocono) and junior forward Scott Hettermann (Falls Church, Va./Landon) added seven points each.
The Yellow Jackets were paced by First Team All-ODAC selections Kurt Bergmann and Jared Mills. Bergmann totaled 15 points and five boards, while Mills added 14 points and nine rebounds.
The Generals conclude their season with an overall record of 7-18. Randolph-Macon, which will face fourth-seeded Roanoke in the semifinals on Sunday, improved to 22-4.
