LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women's basketball team was defeated, 60-30, by Bridgewater on Monday evening at the Warner Center.
After a jumper by freshman guard Louisa Feve (Bethesda, Md./Winston Churchill) with 8:41 left in the first half cut the Bridgewater lead to two (14-12), the Eagles (2-2, 1-0 ODAC) outscored the Generals, 18-2, over the remainder of the period to open a 32-14 advantage at the half. Then, in the second stanza, Bridgewater scored 28 points to W&L's 16 to cruise to the final 60-30 margin.
For the game, the Generals (1-3, 1-1 ODAC) shot 19.6 from the field (10-of-51).
BC was led by junior guard Sarah Oktavec (Pylesville, Md./John Carroll) who recorded game-highs in points (11) and rebounds (8). She also made five steals. Joining Oktavec in double figures were senior guard Megan Forster (Shawsville, Va./Shawsville) and junior center Katie Brennan (Frederick, Md./Frederick), who each tallied 10 points.
Pacing the Generals was junior forward Sarah Michaels (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) who scored nine points and grabbed seven boards. Sophomore guard Bethany Dannelly (Raleigh, N.C./William G. Enloe) accumulated five points, seven rebounds, three assists and five steals.
W&L will be back on the court on Wednesday evening when it hosts Emory & Henry for a 6:30 pm contest.
