HARRISONBURG, Va. -- The top-seeded Washington and Lee volleyball team began the defense of its 2001 ODAC Championship with a 30-13, 30-17, 30-14 win over eighth-seeded Lynchburg in the opening round of the ODAC Tournament on Friday evening at Eastern Mennonite.
The Generals (29-7) were led by sophomore outside hitter Michelle Chastain (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier Prep), who tallied 13 kills, 14 digs and four aces. Sophomore outside hitter Emily Wolfing (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) notched 14 kills and nine digs, while freshman middle blocker Taylor Gibson (San Diego, Calif./Point Loma) recorded 12 kills and four blocks. Freshman setter Christine Gladysz (Palm Harbor, Fla./Berkeley Prep) added 46 assists and nine digs.
The loss ended Lynchburg's season at 15-16 overall.
Washington and Lee will face the winner of the match between fourth-seeded Randolph-Macon and fifth-seeded Guilford on Saturday at 10:30 am. The championship match will be played at 3:00 pm.
