NORFOLK, Va. -- The sixth-seeded Washington and Lee men's soccer team fell to third-seeded Virginia Wesleyan, 4-0, in the opening round of the ODAC men's soccer tournament on Saturday afternoon in Norfolk, Va.
The two teams played a scoreless first half before the Marlins (16-2-1) got on the board at the 50:57 mark as Pat McStay scored off an assist from Josh Hill. VWC added to the lead with 66:50 gone-by as Hill scored on a penalty kick after W&L senior goalkeeper Tim Foley (Darnestown, Md./Georgetown Prep) picked up a red card.
The Marlins added two insurance goals in the final 5:19 of the game to move on to the semifinals.
Foley recorded six saves in goal before being relieved by freshman Michael Stanton (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Olympia), who notched three saves.
Washington and Lee's season now ends at 7-9-2 overall. Virginia Wesleyan will meet seventh-seeded Randolph-Macon in the tournament semifinals on Friday afternoon at Roanoke College.
