W&L Women's Soccer Outlasts Randolph-Macon, 3-2, In Overtime

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Junior forward Fontaine Marcoux (Washington, D.C./Potomac) settled a loose ball off a corner kick and shot it into the Randolph-Macon net 1:30 into the second overtime to lift the Washington and Lee women's soccer team to a 3-2 victory on Wednesday afternoon at the Liberty Hall Fields.

After the Generals (8-1-2, 6-1-1 ODAC) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 37th minute on a goal by freshman midfielder Kerry Giblin (Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J./Northern Highlands), the Yellow Jackets responded with goals by freshman midfielder Kara Shapiro (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) at 52:14 and junior midfielder Leanna Van Osten (Winchester, Va./Sherando) at 64:46 for a 2-1 lead.

Despite allowing more than one goal for the first time all season, W&L bounced back to tie the game when sophomore forward Maggie Hope (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Country Day) scored off a Giblin pass at the 68:40 mark to tie the game at 2-2.

Though W&L outshot Randolph-Macon by a 25-8 margin, the game remained deadlocked for the rest of the second half and through the first overtime until Marcoux's game-winner.

Sophomore goalie Emily Barker (Clifton, Va./Mount Vernon) logged all 101:30 in the W&L goal, upping her record to 6-0-2 for the season. Randolph-Macon (4-7, 3-5 ODAC) sophomore goalie Leslie John (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) made six stops for the Yellow Jackets.

W&L takes the pitch again this Saturday at 11:00 am when it hosts Roanoke College for a showdown between the second and fifth place teams in the ODAC.
