W&L Women's Soccer Handles Guilford, 8-1

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Junior forward Fontaine Marcoux (Washington, D.C./Potomac) tallied two goals and an assist as the Washington and Lee women's soccer team defeated Guilford, 8-1, in an ODAC match on Saturday on the Liberty Hall Fields pitch. With the assist, Marcoux surpassed Karin Treese ('99) as W&L's all-time leader in assists with 24.

Led by sophomore forward Maggie Hope's (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Country Day) two goals, the Generals (7-1-2, 5-1-1) jumped out to a 6-0 halftime lead.

The Quakers (6-5-1, 3-3) cut the W&L advantage to 6-1 just 29 seconds into the second half when sophomore midfielder Kimberly Mullen (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) intercepted a pass in the W&L half and slammed a shot into the back of the net. W&L bounced back as Marcoux and freshman defender Heather Rogers (Atlanta, Ga./Lovett School) scored goals to provide the final 8-1 margin.

Sophomore goalies Emily Barker (Clifton, Va./Mount Vernon) and Abigail Pfeffer (Essex, Conn./Portsmouth Abbey School) each played 45 minutes in the Generals' net, combining to make three saves.

Freshman Danielle Brisotti (Island Park, N.Y./West Hempstead) and sophomore Rachel Chaffin (Winfield, W.Va./Winfield) split the time in the Guilford goal, each making five saves.
