LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee football team upped its record to 2-2 overall, 2-0 in the ODAC with a 7-3 win over Randolph-Macon on Saturday afternoon at Wilson Field.
Randolph-Macon produced a 14-play, 64-yard drive and had a first and goal on the W&L 6-yard line with under a minute remaining; however, the W&L defense held on four plays and the Generals ran out the final 33 seconds for the win.
The Yellow Jackets (3-2, 1-1) assumed a 3-0 lead with 1:49 remaining in the first quarter as sophomore placekicker David Ping (Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass) booted a 42-yard field goal. The Generals answered with 7:55 remaining in the first half as junior quarterback Peter Dean (Vienna, Va./James Madison) found junior wide receiver Jonathan Brimer (Dandridge, Tenn./Jefferson County) with a 20-yard scoring strike.
Washington and Lee was led by Dean, who completed 16-of-33 attempts for 201 yards and one touchdown. He was intercepted twice. Senior running back Chris Sullivan (San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights) rushed for 89 yards on 27 carries, breaking a string of eight consecutive 100-yard rushing performances. Brimer caught three passes for 57 yards and one touchdown. The W&L defense was led by junior linebacker Ben Krasnoff (Towson, Md./Towson), who totaled 12 tackles and forced a fumble.
Randolph-Macon was led by senior quarterback Hunter Price (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle), who completed 26-of-45 passes for 204 yards. In the process, he became the R-MC all-time passing yards leader with 5,315 passing yards. Senior running back David Strong (Winter Park, Fla./Trinity Prep) hauled in nine passes for 66 yards, while senior safety Bobby Akers (Fairfax, Va./Chantilly) recorded eight tackles and an interception.
Washington and Lee returns to action next Saturday as it travels to Catholic for a 1:00 pm contest.
