W&L Volleyball Falls to Thomas More and Maryville

MARYVILLE, Tenn. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team fell to Thomas More, 31-29, 28-30, 27-30, 25-30 and Maryville, 20-30, 27-30, 31-29, 29-31, at the Maryville Invitational on Saturday afternoon in Maryville, Tenn.

In the loss to Thomas More, the Generals (25-7) were led by freshmen middle blocker Susan Gaillard (Charleston, S.C./Porter-Gaud), who amassed 19 kills. Sophomore outside hitter Emily Wolfing (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) notched 13 kills and 14 digs, while sophomore outside hitter Michelle Chastain (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier Prep) registered 12 kills. Senior outside hitter Stacey Kimmel (San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights) added 19 digs and freshman setter Christine Gladysz (Palm Harbor, Fla./Berkeley Prep) notched 51 assists and 12 digs.

Against Maryville, Gaillard again led the Generals' charge with 17 kills and four blocks. Wolfing recorded 12 kills and 18 digs and freshman middle blocker Taylor Gibson (San Diego, Calif./Point Loma) tallied 10 kills, eight digs and six blocks. Sophomore libero Jennifer Lux (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox) added 24 digs, while Gladysz totaled 48 assists and five blocks.

Washington and Lee will be in action again on Tuesday as it hosts Mary Baldwin for a 6:30 pm match.
