W&L Men's Soccer Earns First ODAC Win With 3-1 Defeat Of Emory & Henry

EMORY, Va. -- The Washington and Lee men's soccer team earned its first ODAC win with a 3-1 defeat of Emory & Henry on Wednesday afternoon in Emory, Va.

W&L (2-5-1, 1-3 ODAC) carried a 1-0 advantage into halftime after senior midfielder Kevin Bibona (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) scored off a pass from sophomore midfielder Joshua Grahe (Hagerstown, Md./Mercersburg Academy (Pa.)) in the 30th minute.

After the Wasps' (2-6-1, 0-4 ODAC) tied the game in the 50th minute on a goal by Will McBryde, W&L responded with two unanswered goals to ice the 3-1 victory. Freshman midfielder Walker Nickles' (Columbia, S.C./A.L. Flora) tally with 84 minutes gone by made it 2-1, and senior forward Brad Murphy (Mantoloking, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) added a late insurance goal for the final margin.

Senior netminder Tim Foley (Darnestown, Md./Georgetown Prep) made three saves in the Generals' net for the win.

In the Emory & Henry net, Tommy Smith stopped eight shots.

The Generals outshot the Wasps, 19-9.

W&L will return to the field on Saturday when it hosts Randolph-Macon for a 3:00 pm match.
