BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- The Washington and Lee field hockey team improved to 4-6 overall, 3-3 in the ODAC with a 3-0 win at Bridgewater on Wednesday afternoon.
Junior forward Kelly Taffe (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) opened the scoring with an unassisted goal at the 7:05 mark of the first half.
Sophomore midfielder Kitt Murphy (Richmond, Va./St. Catherines) stretched the lead to 2-0 on an unassisted goal with 30:23 remaining in the second half and sophomore forward Grace Barlow (Louisville, Ky./Kentucky Country Day) added an insurance goal with 4:38 remaining off an assist from freshman midfielder Lindsay Pace (Manasquan, N.J./Manasquan) for the final margin.
Freshman goalkeepers Courtney Harrison (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) and Elise Gelinas (Rosemont, Pa./Agnes Irwin) each logged a half in goal for W&L, combining to stop five shots.
Kristi Martin and Frankee Waldron split time in goal for Bridgewater (3-6, 1-3), making five saves as well.
Washington and Lee will return to action on Wednesday as it hosts Randolph-Macon Woman's College for a 6:30 pm contest.
