W&L Football Defeated by Hampden-Sydney, 44-13

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney sophomore running back CW Clemmons (Covington, Va./Alleghany) produced a 67-yard touchdown run on the team's second play from scrimmage and the Tigers never looked back in claiming a 44-13 win over Washington and Lee at Wilson Field on Saturday afternoon.

Leading 21-0 at the half, the Tigers (5-1, 3-1) scored two more touchdowns and a kicked a field goal in the third quarter for a 38-0 lead. The Generals (2-4, 2-2) scored two fourth quarter touchdowns as junior quarterback Sean McGarvey (Lutherville, Md./Calvert Hall) found senior tight end Jay Thomas (Houston, Texas/Kincaid) on scoring strikes of 30 and 10 yards.

Clemmons led the H-SC offense with 116 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries. Senior quarterback Mac Russell (Selma, Ala./Morgan Academy) completed 16-of-24 passes for 149 yards and two touchdowns, while junior wide receiver Conrad Singh (Ft. Washington, Md./Gonzaga) caught seven balls for 76 yards and one touchdown. Senior defensive back Chris Scott (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes) recorded two tackles and an interception. For Scott, the interception was the 18th of his career, tying the ODAC record.

Thomas led the Generals' offense with four catches for 80 yards and two touchdowns. McGarvey completed 12-of-26 passes for 183 yards and two touchdowns, while senior running back Chris Sullivan (San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights) rushed 19 times for 55 yards. He also caught five passes for 55 yards and returned two kickoffs for 37 yards. His 147 all-purpose yards give him 5,285 career all-purpose yards, breaking the W&L record of 5,184 set by Marc Watson last season. Sophomore linebacker Lloyd Wilson (Austin, Texas/Stephen F. Austin) led the W&L defense with 12 tackles and a half sack.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday as it hosts Sewanee for a 1:00 pm contest.
