LEXINGTON, Va. -- Sophomore forward Molly Plummer (New Orleans, La./Sacred Heart) scored two goals and had one assist as the Washington and Lee women's soccer team defeated Eastern Mennonite, 3-1, on Thursday afternoon at the Liberty Hall Fields.
Plummer scored the first of her two goals at 34:11 when she gathered the ball inside the Royals' 18-yard line and fired a shot into the back of the net. The Generals (10-1-2, 8-1-1) then took a 2-0 lead at the 42:45 mark when Plummer dropped the ball back to freshman midfielder Kerry Giblin (Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J./Northern Highlands), whose shot evaded EMU's junior goaltender Rochelle Yoder (Normal, Ill./Normal).
EMU (9-3-2, 6-2-1) scored its lone goal less than five minutes (49:44) into the second half off a shot by sophomore forward Audra Baker (Lebanon, Ore./Western Mennonite). However, W&L answered at 59:55 when Plummer scored off an assist from junior forward Fontaine Marcoux (Washington, D.C./Potomac).
In the W&L net, sophomore Abigail Pfeffer (Essex, Conn./Portsmouth Abbey School) logged 90 minutes, making two saves for the victory. For the Royals, Yoder had three saves.
W&L's next match is this Saturday when it travels to Bridgewater for a 2:00 pm contest.
