LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee field hockey team won its fourth-straight ODAC match with a 6-0 defeat of Sweet Briar this Tuesday on the W&L Turf Field.
The Generals (6-7, 5-3) opened up a 2-0 halftime advantage behind goals from freshman midfielder S.B. Northen (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) and junior sweeper Maitena Moure (Mar del Plata, Argentina/Holy Trinity).
W&L continued to apply pressure offensively in the second half by scoring four more times. Goals were tallied by sophomore forward Ali Santoro (Bronxville, N.Y./Bronxville), sophomore defender Erin Rathbone (Darnestown, Md./Northwest), Northen and freshman midfielder Jane Beall (Midlothian, Va./James River).
For the evening, W&L held advantages in shots and penalty corners of 27-2 and 9-1.
Freshman goaltender Courtney Harrison (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) logged all 70 minutes in the W&L goal for the shutout. In the Sweet Briar (5-10, 2-7) cage, freshman Jenn Wiley (Williamsburg, Va./Jamestown) turned back 11 shots.
W&L is back on the field this Friday when it travels to Washington, D.C. to face Catholic University for a 4:30 pm match.
