W&L Men's Basketball Falls at Roanoke, 71-56

ROANOKE, Va. -- Roanoke used a 19-5 run midway through the second half en route to a 71-56 victory over Washington and Lee in men's basketball action on Saturday evening.

The Generals held a 29-20 lead with 4:26 to play in the first half, however, saw their lead shrink to two points (32-30) at halftime as the Maroons closed the first half on a 10-3 run.

W&L (3-7, 1-4 ODAC) grabbed its final lead of the game (41-40) with 12:21 left in the game on a layup from junior forward Scott Hetterman (Falls Church, Va./Landon). On the next possession, Roanoke's Drew Crowder nailed a three-pointer to give the Maroons a 43-41 lead. W&L junior guard Toussaint Crawford (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) converted a pair of free throws on the next trip down the court to tie the game at 43-43.

That was as close as the Generals would get the rest of the night as Roanoke used the 19-5 run to break the game open.

W&L was led by freshman center Mark Franceski (Moscow, Pa./North Pocono) who scored a career-high 13 points. He also grabbed five rebounds and dished out three assists. Freshman guard Mike Stuart (Warrenton, Va./Fauquier) tallied 10 points, while junior forward Hamill Jones (Richmond, Va./St. Catherines) recorded a career-high nine points and notched six boards and two assists.

The Maroons (7-4, 2-2 ODAC) were paced by Heath Puckett who scored 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Bryan Fasnacht tallied 11 points for the victors.

W&L will return to action when it hosts Eastern Mennonite at 7:00 pm on Wednesday.
