W&L Women's Basketball Falls To Guilford, 60-41

LEXINGTON, Va. – Guilford broke open a seven point halftime advantage with a 27-10 run over the first 13 minutes of the second half and defeated Washington and Lee, 60-41, in ODAC women's basketball action on Wednesday evening at the Warner Center.

The Quakers, who led 20-13 at intermission, opened up their first double digit lead (23-13) of the evening on a free throw from senior guard Erin Beacham (Atlanta, Ga./The Lovett School) with 17:41 to play.

Guilford would extend its lead to as many as 26 points on two separate occasions in the second half. However, the Generals used a 16-0 run over a four minute span to cut the Quaker lead to 10 points (49-39) with 2:03 left.

The Quakers (14-2, 11-1 ODAC) sealed the victory by hitting 7-of-8 free throws down the stretch.

W&L (8-8, 6-6 ODAC) was paced by senior center Megan Babst (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) who recorded a double-double with game-highs in points (18) and rebounds (10).

The Quakers, who forced 33 W&L turnovers, placed four players in double figures. Senior guard Amy Evans (New Bern, N.C./New Bern) led the way with 14 points and seven boards. Beacham and sophomore forward Jennie Keichline (Cary, N.C./East Chapel Hill) each tallied 12 points, while freshman guard Courtney Hill (Kannapolis, N.C./North Rowan) notched 10 markers.

The Generals return to action on Saturday afternoon as they travel to Bridgewater for a game at 4:00 pm.
