LEXINGTON, Va. – Washington and Lee freshman point guard Bethany Dannelly (Raligh, N.C./William G. Enloe) set a school record with 11 assists to help lead the women's basketball squad to a 62-37 victory over Lynchburg on Wednesday evening at the Warner Center.
For the Generals, it marked their fourth consecutive victory.
The Generals (7-6, 5-4 ODAC) grabbed a 19-8 lead with 7:27 to play on a layup from senior forward Jessica Mentz (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) and never looked back.
Lynchburg (4-10, 2-7 ODAC), which found itself trailing 28-12 at halftime, did manage to cut the W&L lead to 13 points (31-18) with 18:04 to play, however, saw the Generals go on an 18-4 run to grab a 49-22 advantage with 10 minutes to play in the game.
Mentz led the Generals with 29 points and 13 rebounds, while senior center Megan Babst (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) chipped in with 13 points and four rebounds. Freshman forward Emily Barker (Clifton, Va./Mount Vernon) tallied 11 points. Dannelly also contributed seven boards.
Lynchburg was paced by senior forward Erika Smith (Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge) who notched eight points and three rebounds.
W&L will return to action on Friday when it hosts Hollins at 7:00 pm.
