NORFOLK, Va. -- The Washington and Lee field hockey dropped its first game as a fully-sponsored varsity sport, 2-1, to Va. Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon.
The Marlins scored the first goal of the game at the 16:15 mark when Jaclyn Bailey's shot beat W&L goalkeeper Deidra MacLeod (Weston, Mass./Weston) for the only goal of the first half.
The Generals tied the game at the 48:28 mark as sophomore link Kelly Taffe (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) scored an unassisted goal. The game stayed tied until Lindsay Mike scored the game-winner with just under five minutes to play.
MacLeod, who played all 70 minutes in goal, made six saves on the afternoon.
The Generals will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Hollins for a 4:30 pm match.
