Lynchburg Defeats W&L, 4-1, In Women's Soccer

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women's soccer team dropped its opening game of the 2001 season, 4-1, to Lynchburg on Friday afternoon on the Liberty Hall Fields.

In a rematch of last year's ODAC Championship game, Lynchburg got on the board first at the 19:10 mark when junior forward Nicole Wisniewski's (Berlin, N.J./Bishop Eustace) left-footed shot found the back of the net for the only goal of the first-half.

The Hornets (2-0-1, 1-0 ODAC) put the game away in the middle of the second-half as senior forward Suzanne Weller (Richmond, Va./Cazenovia (N.Y.)) scored in the 59th minute and junior midfielder Heather Voss (Richmond, Va./Monacan) scored less than three minutes later. Sophomore midfielder Kat Stuart (Richmond, Va./Home School) scored Lynchburg's fourth goal in the 87th minute.

Senior midfielder Kate Bidwell (Pensacola, Fla./Escambia) scored W&L's (0-1, 0-1 ODAC) first goal of the season with under two minutes to play off an assist from sophomore forward Fontaine Marcoux (Washington, D.C./Potomac).

The Generals will be back in action on Tuesday, as they travel to Randolph-Macon for a 4:00 pm match.
