W&L Women's Soccer Wins Sixth Straight

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee freshman forward Maggie Hope (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Country Day) scored her first collegiate goal with 2:01 remaining in the first overtime period to lead the Generals to their sixth consecutive victory. It is W&L's longest winning streak since opening the 1998 season with six straight wins.

Hope scored her goal after Virginia Wesleyan freshman goalkeeper Sabrina Hurczyn (Bristol, Conn./Bristol Eastern) tried to clear the ball from just outside the box. However, her attempt deflected off Hope and rolled into the goal.

W&L (6-1, 6-1 ODAC), which was the eighth ranked team in the South Region this week, saw freshman goalkeeper Emily Barker (Clifton, Va./Mount Vernon) make five saves on the afternoon. Hurczyn made seven saves for the Marlins (7-3, 4-1), who lost for the first time in conference play this season and were the sixth ranked team in the South Region this week.

The Generals outshot the Marlins, 12-6.

W&L returns to action on Sunday afternoon when it hosts North Carolina Wesleyan, the fifth ranked team in the South Region, at 2:00 pm.
