NORFOLK, Va. -- The Washington and Lee men's soccer team won its fourth straight game by defeating Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon, 3-2.
The Marlins jumped on the board first as Jon Mills scored just 3:30 into the game off an assist from Josh Nolz. W&L (5-1-1, 4-0 ODAC) tied the game at the 35:34 mark when junior forward Brad Murphy (Mantoloking, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) scored his third goal of the season.
Virginia Wesleyan (7-4, 4-1 ODAC) went ahead 2-1 at the 65:50 mark as Curtis Shank scored off an assist from Jon Mills. W&L senior forward Andrew Grimes (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay) tied the game at 2-2 when he scored his second goal of the season at the 77:00 mark off an assist from sophomore forward Bret Grote (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny). The game remained tied for the next five minutes until Murphy tallied his second goal of the afternoon with eight minutes to play off an assist from Grote.
W&L junior goalkeeper Brad Hearn (Raleigh, N.C./Broughton) made six saves to earn the victory. Marlin goalkeeper Sean Wreston made three saves.
The Generals will return to action on Thursday when they host Hampden-Sydney at 4:00 pm.
