W&L Splits a Pair of Matches at the Emory University Invitational

ATLANTA, Ga. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team split a pair of matches at the Emory University Invitational on Friday evening. The Generals defeated Milligan College, 30-15, 31-29, 30-23, before falling to sixth-ranked Emory, 30-16, 30-16, 30-24, in the nightcap.

The Generals' win over Milligan upped their record to 12-1 overall, the best start in school history. Freshman outside hitter Michelle Chastain (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier Prep) led the way with 11 kills and 11 digs. Senior middle blocker Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart) totaled 11 kills and eight digs, while junior outside hitter Stacey Kimmel (San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights) registered seven kills and six aces. Freshman setter Jennifer Lux (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox) amassed 31 assists.

In the loss to Emory (15-1), Chastain totaled nine kills, while Ruckert recorded six kills and 11 digs. Freshman outside hitter Emily Wolfing (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) posted 10 digs and sophomore outside hitter Mary-Wommack Barton (Austin, Texas/St. Stephen's) notched eight digs. Lux contributed 18 assists.

Washington and Lee (12-2) begins the second day of the Emory Invitational on Saturday at 11:30 am as it plays Greensboro College. The Generals will then take on Catholic University at 2:00 pm.
