W&L Men's Soccer Defeats Emory & Henry, 4-0

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee men's soccer team used two first half goals from sophomore midfielder Jacob Stoehr (San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights) en route to a 4-0 victory over Emory & Henry on the Liberty Hall Fields on Wednesday afternoon.

Senior defender Paul Wallace (Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry) put the Generals on the board first as he scored his first goal of the season off assists from junior defender Sean Hardin (Atlanta, Ga./The Westminster School) and senior forward Andrew Grimes (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay).

Stoehr then gave the Generals (4-1-1, 3-0 ODAC) a 2-0 lead at the 13:55 mark when he scored after junior forward Brad Murphy's (Mantoloking, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) shot deflected off the post. Stoehr would tally his second goal of the half 30:08 into the game to give W&L a 3-0 lead at halftime. Murphy rounded out the scoring as he notched his second goal of the season off a corner kick from freshman Brian Pirkle (Lexington, Va./Woodberry Forest) at the 57:28 mark.

W&L junior goalkeeper Tim Foley (Darnestown, Md./Georgetown Prep) played the first 45 minutes and made two saves. Junior Brad Hearn (Raleigh, N.C./Broughton) made four saves in the second 45 minutes of action. Emory & Henry (4-4, 2-2 ODAC) senior Josh Hale (Penhook, Va./Franklin County) posted 11 saves in just over one half of play. Junior Tommy Smith (Seymour, Tenn./Seymour) made eight saves in relief duty.

The Generals return to action on Saturday when they travel to Virginia Wesleyan for a match at 2:00 pm.
