W&L Women's Soccer Hands Bridgewater First Loss Of Season, 4-1

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women's soccer team scored four first half goals en route to a 4-1 victory over previously undefeated Bridgewater on the Liberty Hall Fields on Tuesday afternoon.

The Generals (3-1, 3-1 ODAC) fell behind early as Eagle sophomore forward Diana Bolard (Sykesville, Md./South Carroll) scored just 8:02 into the game off an assist from junior forward Sarah Pritchett (Wolftown, Va./St.Anne's Belfield).

W&L responded when senior midfielder Kate Bidwell (Pensacola, Fla./Escambia) scored her fourth goal of the season at the 17:15 mark. Sophomore Fontaine Marcoux (Washington, D.C./Potomac) the reigning ODAC Player of the Week, then put two goals on the board in less than three minutes. She tallied her first goal off an assist from freshman defender Romney Willson (Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry) with 28:25 gone by in the first half. Marcoux then beat the Bridgewater goalkeeper at the 31:10 mark for her second goal of the game. Sophomore midfielder Meghan Hayde (Massapequa, N.Y./St. Anthony) scored her first goal of the season with 33:34 gone by in the first half to close out the scoring.

Freshman goalkeeper Emily Barker (Clifton, Va./Mount Vernon) made seven saves to earn her third consecutive victory. Bridgewater (5-1, 3-1 ODAC) sophomore goalkeeper Ashleigh Lewis (Fredericksburg, Va./Chancellor) made six saves.

The Generals return to action on Saturday when they host Randolph-Macon Woman's College at 11:00 am.
