W&L Volleyball Wins Centre Invitational

DANVILLE, Ky. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team emerged as the champion of the Centre College Invitational after defeating Rio Grande, 30-23, 26-30, 30-23, 30-23, and Emory & Henry, 21-30, 30-22, 30-20, 30-19, on Sunday afternoon. The Generals went 5-0 in the tournament.

Senior middle blockers Leslie Fischbeck (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) and Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart) were named to the all-tournament team with Ruckert taking home tournament MVP honors.

In the win over Rio Grande, Ruckert led the Generals with 25 kills and 10 digs. Freshman outside hitter Michelle Chastain (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier Prep) totaled 10 kills and 17 digs, while sophomore defensive specialist Kari Lassen (Newport News, Va./Hampton Roads Academy) added 16 digs. Freshman setter Jennifer Lux (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox) recorded 52 assists and 14 digs.

Against Emory & Henry, Ruckert, who is just 33 kills from breaking the W&L and ODAC career record, posted 19 kills and nine digs. Fischbeck totaled 10 kills and seven blocks, while Lux added 33 assists and 14 digs.

Washington and Lee, who is now 8-1 on the season, will be in action again on Wednesday as it opens its ODAC schedule by hosting Emory & Henry. The match is slated to begin at 6:30 pm.
