W&L Volleyball Posts 3-0 Record on Day One of Centre Invitational

DANVILLE, Ky. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team notched a 3-0 record in the first day of competition at the Centre College Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Generals defeated Centre, 30-21, 30-21, 30-21, LaGrange, 30-17, 30-26, 30-22 and Hollins, 30-22, 30-23, 30-11.

Against Centre, the Generals were led by freshman outside hitter Michelle Chastain (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier Prep), who amassed 12 kills and seven digs. Senior middle blocker Leslie Fischbeck (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) totaled 10 kills and six blocks, while senior middle blocker Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart) notched eight kills and 10 digs. Freshman setter Jennifer Lux (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox) totaled 34 assists, six digs and four blocks.

In the win over LaGrange, Ruckert led the way with 14 kills and nine digs. Chastain totaled seven kills and nine digs, while Lux notched 27 assists and 11 digs.

Against Hollins, Ruckert again led the way with 13 kills and six digs. Chastain posted eight kills and six digs, while Fischbeck amassed seven kills and four blocks. Lux added 23 assists. Senior outside hitter Sara Heusel (Ann Arbor, Mich./Novi) served seven aces in the third game, a W&L record for aces in a game.

Washington and Lee, who is now 6-1 on the season, will be in action again tomorrow in the Centre Invitational. Action begins at 10:00 am against the University of Rio Grande.
