EMORY, Va. -- Kelly Smith scored a game-high 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Emory & Henry past Washington and Lee, 79-66, in ODAC women's basketball action on Tuesday evening.
W&L junior forward Jessica Mentz (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) scored a team-high 22 points to become the school's all-time leading scorer. Mentz eclipsed the mark of 1,165 points set by Ansley Miller '00 last season. Her career total now stands at 1,172 points.
The Generals (7-14, 5-12) trailed by five points (44-39) with 13:27 remaining in the game; however, the Wasps surged on an 10-0 run over the next 2:36 to take a 54-39 lead and never looked back.
Joining Smith in double figures for E&H (18-4, 15-3) were Danielle Moore with 19 points and Erin Connelly with 14 points and 14 rebounds.
Junior center Megan Babst (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) notched 17 points and nine rebounds, while junior forward Sarah Schmidt (Topeka, Kan./Hayden) tallied a career-high 16 points for the Generals.
W&L will return to action on Thursday evening as it hosts Virginia Wesleyan for a 7:00 pm contest.
