BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- Bridgewater junior center Kyle Williford scored 28 points in just 18 minutes of action as the Eagles cruised past Washington and Lee, 78-50, in ODAC men's basketball action on Monday evening.
The Eagles jumped out to a 15-2 lead in the first 4:44 of the game and pushed their lead to 19 points (39-20) at the half.
Williford collected his points on 12-of-16 shooting. He was the only Eagle in double figures and collected seven rebounds. Senior forward Shane Burnette added six points, seven rebounds and four assists for Bridgewater which shot 50 percent from the floor (30-60). In all, 12 different players scored for the Eagles.
Washington and Lee was led by freshman center John Saxon (Jackson, Miss./Jackson Prep), who scored a career-high 17 points. Senior guard Chad Braley (Huntington, W.Va./Paul Blazer) added 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting from behind the three-point arc. The Generals shot just 38.8 percent from the floor and committed 23 turnovers.
The Generals would earn the No. 8 seed in the upcoming ODAC Tournament given a Lynchburg loss to Randolph-Macon on Tuesday evening. If Lynchburg defeats the Yellow Jackets, the Hornets would earn the No. 8 seed.
The tournament begins on Saturday afternoon at the Salem (Va.) Civic Center as the No. 8 seed takes on the No. 1 seed at 1:00 pm.
