LEXINGTON, Va. -- Junior forward Bob Bustamante (Miami, Fla./Christopher Columbus) nailed 3-of-4 free throws in the final 10 seconds to help lead Washington and Lee to a 68-64 win over Eastern Mennonite in ODAC men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon.
The Generals (4-19, 4-14) led for much of the game, but never by more than seven points (16-9). EMU senior guard Dustin Blyer (Harrisonburg, Va./Eastern Mennonite HS) twice cut the W&L lead to just one point in the final 1:33 of the contest before Bustamante provided the final margin at the stripe.
Senior center Neal Lewis (Glen Allen, Va./Benedictine) led the Royals (9-14, 7-10) with a game-high 17 points and nine rebounds. Junior guard David Bell (Waynesboro, Va./Buffalo Gap) tallied 11 points, while Blyer chipped in with 10 points. The Generals held senior guard Joel Kauffman (Baxter, Ky./Harlan), EMU's leading scorer, to just seven points on 2-of-4 shooting from the floor.
Washington and Lee was led by senior guard Will Ballard (Elkin, N.C./Elkin), who totaled 15 points, five rebounds and three steals. Freshman center David Bode (Raleigh, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons) notched 14 points, 11 of which came in the first half, while Bustamante added 10 points.
Eastern Mennonite shot 51.4 percent from the floor, but committed 23 turnovers in the contest.
Washington and Lee will be in action again on Monday as it travels to Bridgewater College for a 7:00 pm contest.
