W&L Falls at Randolph-Macon, 82-64

ASHLAND, Va. -- Randolph-Macon used an 18-1 run to close out the first half with a 46-29 lead and cruised to an 82-64 victory over Washington and Lee in men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon.

The Generals (2-4, 0-1 ODAC) controlled the first 10 minutes of the game, leading by six points on two occasions. However, W&L could not shake the Yellow Jackets, who tied the game three times in a span of two minutes. The Yellow Jackets then used the 18-1 run to break a 28-28 tie and take a 46-29 lead at the break.

The Yellow Jackets (3-1, 2-0) increased their lead to as many as 19 points in the second half, but saw the Generals reduce the lead to 11 points, 67-56, with 5:53 to play. Randolph-Macon then used a 14-4 run over the next four minutes to take a 21-point lead, 81-60, with less than two minutes to play.

The Generals were led by freshman guard Mike Stuart (Warrenton, Va./Fauquier) who tallied 12 points. Freshman center Mark Franceski (Moscow, Pa./North Pocono) added 11 points and four rebounds, while junior forward Scott Hetterman (Falls Church, Va./Landon) contributed 10 points, four rebounds and a game-high five assists.

Randolph-Macon was paced by junior forward Jared Mills (Reading, Pa./Reading Central Catholic) who led all scorers with a career-high 25 points. Sophomore forward Kurt Bergmann (Fallington, Pa./Pennsbury) added 11 points and a game-high seven rebounds.

W&L returns to action on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 pm when they play at Virginia Wesleyan.
