W&L Volleyball Advances to NCAA South Region Semifinals

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team advanced to the NCAA Division III South Regional Semifinals with a 30-21, 30-15, 30-15 win over Christopher Newport on Thurdsay evening at Trinity University.

In the process, the third-seeded Generals set a new school record for wins in a season. W&L is now 30-4 overall.

Senior middle blocker Leslie Fischbeck (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) led W&L with 12 kills and two blocks. Junior outside hitter Stacey Kimmel (San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights) totaled nine kills, nine digs and seven aces, while senior middle blocker Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart) added nine kills, six digs and six aces. Freshman setter Jennifer Lux (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox) amassed 31 assists.

Sixth-seeded Christopher Newport (24-11) was led by Lindsey Sheppard, who recorded seven kills and six digs. Nina Richardson tallied 18 assists for the Captains.

Washington and Lee will face second-seeded Emory in the semifinals on Friday evening at 5:00 pm CST. The Eagles received a first-round bye.
