LEXINGTON, Va. -- Top-seeded Washington and Lee claimed its fourth ODAC Volleyball Championship in the last five years as the Generals defeated seventh-seeded Roanoke, 30-21, 30-20, 30-15, in the championship game on Saturday afternoon.
The Generals (29-4) were led by senior middle blocker Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart), who totaled 13 kills in earning tournament MVP honors. Freshman outside hitter Michelle Chastain (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier Prep) notched 12 digs, while freshman setter Jennifer Lux (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox) tallied 36 assists. Senior middle blocker Leslie Fischbeck (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) added 12 kills in making the all-tournament team.
Roanoke (17-12) was led by freshman middle blocker Heather Cook (Dublin, Va./Pulaski), who tallied 12 kills. Sophomore outside hitter Melissa Slusher (Altavista, Va./Altavista) and sophomore setter Holly Holland (Roanoke, Va./William Byrd) both notched five digs. Holland also contributed 28 assists. Both Cook and Holland made the all-tournament team for the Maroons.
With the win, Washington and Lee earns the ODAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Generals will compete in the NCAA South Regional held Nov. 8-11 at a site to be determined.
