ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The Washington and Lee women's basketball team fell to 0-2 on the season with a 64-49 loss to Swarthmore College in the consolation game of the McWilliams Classic at Washington University on Sunday afternoon.
The Generals trailed by just six points (29-23) at the break, but the Garnet Tide (3-2) began the second half with a 22-7 run to take a 51-30 lead and cruised to the win.
W&L was led by senior forward Jessica Mentz (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial), who tallied 22 points and 12 rebounds. Senior center Megan Babst (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) added 17 points and 12 boards, while freshman forward Emily Barker (Clifton, Va./Mount Vernon) notched eight points, six rebounds and four assists.
Swarthmore was led by Katie Robinson, who totaled 20 points, nine rebounds, five steals and four assists. Heather Kile added 19 points, eight rebounds and five steals.
For the game, the Generals shot just 39.6 percent and committed 23 turnovers.
Washington and Lee will be in action again on Wednesday evening as it travels to Lynchburg College for a 7:00 pm contest.
