LEXINGTON, VA. -- The Washington and Lee women's soccer team scored a season-high seven goals as it defeated Ferrum, 7-0, on the Liberty Hall Fields on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore midfielder Heather Coleman (Blackwood, N.J./Triton Regional) and senior midfielder Drew Powers (Atlanta, Ga./The Lovett School) each tallied two goals for the Generals. Sophomore forward Fontaine Marcoux (Washington, D.C./Potomac), freshman forward Maggie Hope (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Country Day) and freshman midfielder Ginny Helms (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park) all recorded one goal on the afternoon.
Junior midfielder Jenny Thomas (High Point, N.C./Central) dished out two assists for the Generals. Her second came on a flip throw-in that was headed in by Powers. Senior midfielder Kate Bidwell (Pensacola, Fla./Escambia) and freshman midfielder Alison Irvin (Lexington, Ky./Lexington Catholic) both tallied one assist.
W&L (8-2) freshmen goalkeepers Abigail Pfeffer (Essex, Conn./Portsmouth Abbey) and Emily Barker (Clifton, Va./Mount Vernon) each played 45 minutes to combine for the shutout. Ferrum (1-8) senior goalkeeper Tara Bell (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) made 10 saves on the afternoon.
The Generals return to action on Wednesday when they travel Hollins for a game at 4:00 pm.
