MARYVILLE, Tenn. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team split a pair of matches in the second day of action at the Maryville Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Generals fell to Cumberland (Ky.), 30-21, 22-30, 27-30, 30-25, 16-18, then defeated Maryville, 30-21, 30-23, 30-15.
In the loss to Cumberland, senior middle blocker Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart) led the way with 24 kills, 13 digs and five blocks. Freshman outside hitter Michelle Chastain (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier Prep) tallied 13 kills and 28 digs, while senior middle blocker Leslie Fischbeck (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) notched 14 kills.
Freshman setter Jennifer Lux (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox) amassed 49 assists and nine digs.
In the win over Maryville, Ruckert totaled 16 kills and eight digs, while Fischbeck registered seven kills and four blocks. Sophomore defensive specialist Kari Lassen (Newport News, Va./Hampton Roads Academy) notched 10 digs. Lux added 34 assists.
W&L, now 26-4 on the season, will be in action again on Friday as it hosts the ODAC Tournament. The times and opponents for the tournament are yet to be determined.
