LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women's soccer team advanced to the ODAC Tournament semifinals for the 13th consecutive season with a 2-1 victory over Randolph-Macon in quarterfinal action on the Liberty Hall Fields on Tuesday afternoon.
W&L (11-4) scored the first goal of the game at the 20:23 mark as senior midfielder Kate Bidwell (Pensacola, Fla./Escambia) tallied her team-leading 10th goal of the season off an assist from freshman forward Maggie Hope (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Country Day) The Yellow Jackets tied the game at 1-1 as senior midfielder Lisa Weitzel (Landenberg, Pa./Notre Dame (Md.)) notched an unassisted goal at the 33:46 mark.
W&L freshman midfielder Liz Clarke (Midlothian, Va./Clover Hill) scored what proved to be the game-winning goal just 2:30 into the second half. Sophomore forward Fontaine Marcoux (Washington, D.C./Potomac) recorded the assist on Clarke's goal. For Marcoux, it was her 12th assist of the season and set a single-season record for assists at W&L.
W&L freshman goalkeeper Abigail Pfeffer (Essex, Conn./Portsmouth Abbey School) recorded four saves to earn the victory. Yellow Jacket (6-11-1) sophomore keeper Ashley Seal (Richmond, Va./Collegiate School) made four saves in the losing effort.
The Generals will play Roanoke in an ODAC semifinal game on Friday at 3:00 pm. The match will be played at Lynchburg, who is the No. 1 seed in the tournament.
