BALTIMORE, Md. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team improved to 20-3 overall by winning the Goucher Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Generals defeated Seton Hill, 28-30, 30-12, 30-27, 30-27, and Marymount, 30-14, 31-29, 30-13 before downing Lynchburg, 30-18, 30-10, 30-21, in the finals.
Against Seton Hill, senior middle blocker Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart) led the way with 16 kills, seven digs and five aces. Senior middle blocker Leslie Fischbeck (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) totaled 14 kills and freshman outside hitter Emily Wolfing (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) recorded 12 kills. Freshman outside hitter Michelle Chastain (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier Prep) registered 10 kills and 11 digs, while freshman setter Jennifer Lux (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox) amassed 46 assists.
In the win over Marymount, Ruckert and Chastain tied for the team lead with nine kills. Fischbeck totaled eight kills and four blocks, while Wolfing had seven kills and nine digs. Lux added 29 assists and eight digs.
In the championship match against Lynchburg, Chastain led the way with 10 kills and 13 digs. Ruckert totaled eight kills and six digs, while junior outside hitter Stacey Kimmel (San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights) provided seven kills and 10 digs. Wolfing added eight kills and nine digs and Fischbeck recorded nine kills and seven blocks. Lux registered 30 assists and five digs.
Ruckert was named to the all-tournament team. She passed the career 1,000-dig mark and is in third place all-time at W&L in that category.
Washington and Lee will be in action again on Thursday as it travels to Bridgewater for a 6:30 pm match with the Eagles.
