Roanoke Edges Washington and Lee, 57-48, in ODAC Men's Hoops

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Sophomore guard Robby Pridgen (Akron, Ohio/St. Vincent/St. Mary) scored 24 points on 9-of-14 shooting to help lead Roanoke past Washington and Lee, 57-48, in ODAC men's basketball action on Saturday evening at the Warner Center.

Roanoke (7-3, 2-2) held a 35-26 lead at the break, however the Generals (1-9, 1-4) fought back to cut the Maroons lead to just one point (49-48) with 4:15 remaining. Roanoke held W&L scoreless from that point as the Generals missed their final five shots from the floor and committed three turnovers.

Roanoke shot 54.3 percent (19-35) from the floor, but hit just 13-of-25 free throw attempts (.520). W&L connected on just 36.6 percent (15-41) of its shots from the field, but hit 13-of-15 foul shots.

Senior guard Brad Dunleavy (Roanoke, Va./William Flemming) added 14 points, but committed eight turnovers. Senior forward Colby Leftwich (Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry) scored eight points and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.

Washington and Lee was paced by sophomore forward Scott Hettermann (Falls Church, Va./Landon), who scored 14 points and grabbed five rebounds. Senior guard Will Ballard (Elkin, N.C./Elkin) chipped in with 13 points.

Washington and Lee will return to action on Wednesday as it travels to Eastern Mennonite for a 7:00 pm contest.
