SALEM, Va. -- Roanoke ended the first half on a 15-2 run to take a 40-22 halftime lead in defeating Washington and Lee, 75-61, in ODAC Men's Basketball action.
The Generals (3-15, 3-10) opened the game on a 10-2 run over the first 3:14, but the Maroons responded with a 13-1 run over the next 6:32 to take the lead for good at 15-11.
W&L climbed to within nine points (57-48) with 8:11 remaining in the contest, but could get no closer.
Roanoke (13-5, 8-4) was led by senior forward Colby Leftwich, who tallied a game-high 16 points and eight rebounds. He was joined in double figures by sophomore guard Robby Pridgen (14 points) and senior guard Brad Dunleavy (13 points). The Maroons shot 56.5 percent (26-46) from the floor and committed just 14 turnovers.
Washington and Lee placed four players in double figures led by sophomore forward Scott Hettermann (Falls Church, Va./Landon) and senior guards Will Ballard (Elkin, N.C./Elkin) and Chad Braley (Huntington, W.Va./Paul Blazer), who each scored 12 points. Junior forward Bob Bustamante (Miami, Fla./Christopher Columbus) added 11 points on 3-of-4 shooting from beyond the three-point arc. Hettermann added a team-high eight rebounds. The Generals shot 56 percent (14-25) from the floor in the second half and 53.8 percent (7-13) from three-point land for the game.
Washington and Lee will return to action on Wednesday as it travels to Emory & Henry for a 7:00 pm contest.
