LEXINGTON, Va. -- Senior guard Jaron Randall (Trenton, N.J./Princeton Day School) scored a team-high 15 points and recorded four steals to help lead Guilford to a 60-54 win over Washington and Lee in ODAC men's basketball action on Wednesday evening at the Warner Center.
The win was Guilford's (7-9, 6-4) first in its last six tries against the Generals and its third ODAC victory in a row.
The Quakers led by three points (30-27) at the half, but W&L fought back to take a one-point lead (35-34) with 16:18 remaining. However, the Generals would miss 12 of their next 13 shots from the field to fall behind by eight points (49-41) with 5:48 remaining. Guilford hit nine free throws from that point on to clinch the win.
On the game, Guilford hit 22-of-36 charity tosses and outrebounded W&L, 38-33. The Generals shot just 32.1 percent from the field in the second half and 37.7 percent for the game.
Junior center Aron McMillian (Greensboro, N.C./Greensboro Day) added 14 points and senior center Todd Ashworth (High Point, N.C./Southwest Guilford) recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Quakers.
Washington and Lee (2-12, 2-7) was led by freshman center David Bode (Raleigh, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons), who scored a career-high 15 points. Sophomore forward Scott Hettermann (Falls Church, Va./Landon) tallied 14 points and seven rebounds, while senior guard Will Ballard (Elkin, N.C./Elkin) notched 10 points and a career-high nine rebounds.
Washington and Lee will return to action this weekend as it travels to Virginia Wesleyan for a 2:00 pm contest on Saturday and to Randolph-Macon for a 3:00 pm contest on Sunday.
