Generals Fall at Hampden-Sydney, 84-47

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney jumped out to a 20-4 lead in the game's first 9:53 and shot 69 percent (18-of-26) in the first half as the Tigers handed Washington and Lee an 84-47 defeat in ODAC men's basketball action on Sunday afternoon in Hampden-Sydney, Va.

Marcus Randall scored 12 of his career-high 18 points in the first half as the Tigers (13-1, 7-1) led 45-18 after the first stanza.

W&L (2-11, 2-6) shot 35.7 percent for the game (20-of-56) and connected on only 1-of-14 three point attempts. The Generals were also outrebounded, 41-26.

Sophomore forward Scott Hettermann (Falls Church, Va./Landon School) was the only General in double-digits with 12 points. He also added two rebounds and two steals. Freshman center John Saxon (Jackson, Miss./Jackson Prep) notched eight points and pulled down four rebounds.

Hampden-Sydney was led by Randall and Mike Thompson, who collected eight points and seven boards on the day.

Washington and Lee will resume its ODAC schedule on Wednesday evening as it returns home to host Guilford at 7:00 pm.
