W&L Volleyball Splits in Day Two at Emory Invitational

ATLANTA, Ga. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team split in the second day of the Emory Invitational on Saturday, dropping an 8-15, 3-15, 16-14, 8-15 match to Averett College, before downing Millsaps, 15-11, 10-15, 8-15, 15-10, 15-13, in the nightcap.

Against Averett, the Generals (8-5) were paced by freshman outside hitter Kristin Shelton (Austin, Texas/McCallum), who totaled 16 kills. Junior middle blocker Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart) notched nine kills, while sophomore outside hitter Stacey Kimmel (San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights) amassed a team-high 13 digs. Senior setter Pam Saulsbury (Ridgely, Md./North Caroline) had 24 assists.

In the win over Millsaps, W&L was again led by Shelton, who tallied 23 kills and eight blocks. Ruckert notched 15 kills and 12 digs, while senior outside hitter Tori Hays (Littleton, Colo./Arapahoe) also totaled 15 kills. Kimmel tallied 12 digs and Saulsbury added 32 assists.

The Generals will be in action again on Tuesday as they travel to Randolph-Macon for a 6:30 pm match.
