ATLANTA, Ga. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team dropped both its matches during the opening day of the Emory Invitational on Friday.
The Generals (7-4) were defeated by Greensboro College, 9-15, 16-14, 11-15, 15-17 in the opening match, before dropping a 5-15, 11-15, 6-15 match to third-ranked Emory University in the nightcap.
Against Greensboro, W&L was led by junior middle blocker Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart), who tallied 19 kills. Junior middle blocker Leslie Fischbeck (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) notched 16 kills and three blocks, while senior outside hitter Tori Hays (Littleton, Colo./Arapahoe) and sophomore outside hitter Stacey Kimmel (San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights) each amassed 13 digs.
Senior setters Pam Saulsbury (Ridgely, Md./North Caroline) and Katherine Kline (Potomac, Md./Holton-Arms) totaled 20 and 17 assists, respectively.
Against Emory, Ruckert tallied eight kills, while Saulsbury notched team-highs in digs (7) and assists (10). Kline totaled eight assists.
The Generals will be in action again on Saturday as they face Averett College (11:30 am) and Millsaps College (4:30 pm) in the Emory Tournament.
