LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee used two second half goals to defeat Virginia Wesleyan for the first time since 1989, 2-1 in ODAC men's soccer action on Saturday afternoon.
The win gave the Generals their first 5-0 start since 1964, when they finished 7-2-1.
Senior forward Andy Crawford (Durham, N.C./Durham Academy) deflected home his first collegiate goal off a cross from sophomore forward Brad Murphy (Mantoloking, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) at the 54:22 mark to give W&L a 1-0 lead.
Freshman midfielder Jacob Stoehr (San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights) notched his first collegiate goal at the 71:06 mark off a pass from junior midfielder David Kodack (Branchburg, N.J./Somerville) to give the Generals a 2-0 lead.
Sophomore midfielder Josh Nolz (Onancock, Va./Nandua) cut the lead in half over eight minutes later, but the Blue Marlins could not find the net again in the final ten minutes.
Sophomore goalkeeper Tim Foley (Darnestown, Md./Georgetown Prep) picked up his second victory of the season for the Generals.
W&L returns to action on Thursday as they travel to Hampden-Sydney, Va. to take on Hampden-Sydney at 4:00 pm.
