Washington and Lee Defeats Eastern Mennonite, 56-51

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee snapped a seven game losing streak against Eastern Mennonite and ran its home record to 7-2 on the season with a 56-51 win over the Royals on Saturday afternoon in the Warner Center.

W&L led the game by a 17-13 count with 6:11 remaining in the opening half before Eastern Mennonite surged on a 12-0 run over the next 7:11 to take a 25-17 lead with 19:00 remaining in the game.

The Royals (9-11, 5-9) pushed their advantage to 11 points (31-20) with 14:18 remaining, however, W&L would come back. The Generals (7-11, 5-8) surged on a 23-6 run over the next 7:48 to take a six-point lead (43-37) that they would not surrender.

EMU sliced the W&L lead to one-point (46-45) with 2:47 remaining, but the Generals 8-of-10 free throws from that point on to seal the win.

Junior guard Chad Braley (Huntington, W.Va./Paul Blazer) led the Generals with a game-high 17 points on 4-of-7 shooting from beyond the three-point arc. Senior forward Scott Hudson (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) tallied nine points and three blocked shots, while senior center Brian Ricketts (Memphis, Tenn./Memphis University School) corralled a team-high eight rebounds.

Eastern Mennonite was led by senior forward Quincy Longacre (Telford, Pa./Christopher Dock), who tallied 14 points and 12 rebounds. Junior center Neal Lewis (Glen Allen, Va./Benedictine) also notched a double-double for the Royals, totaling 12 points and 12 rebounds.

EMU shot just over 28 percent from the floor, but outrebounded the Generals, 46-32. W&L shot 32 percent from the floor, but made good on 81.8 percent of its free throws (18-of-22).

Washington and Lee returns to action on Monday evening as it hosts Randolph-Macon in a 7:00 pm contest.
