W&L Shocks Bridgewater in ODAC Tournament, 55-50

SALEM, Va. -- Sixth-seeded Washington and Lee was a perfect 19-of-19 from the free throw line and posted a 55-50 win over third seeded Bridgewater in the quarterfinals of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Basketball Tournament. Washington and Lee (9-15) advances to Sunday's semifinal and will play Roanoke at 4 pm. Bridgewater finishes its season 17-8, falling in the ODAC Quarterfinals for the second consecutive season.

The perfect 19-of-19 performance at the line ties the ODAC record for team free throw percentage in a game while setting a new W&L record.

Senior center Brian Ricketts (Memphis, Tenn./Memphis University School) recorded a double-double for Washington and Lee with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Ricketts was the only W&L performer in double figures, while five different players contributed eight points each.

Matt Stevens led Bridgewater with 16 points, connecting on 7-of-11 field goals. Kyle Williford added 10 points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds. The Eagles committed just nine turnovers but struggled at a .352 rate from the field.

Washington and Lee never trailed in the first half and held a 27-23 lead at the break. The Eagles took their first lead of the game, 45-44, with 4:31 remaining on a Stevens lay-up. Single free throws by Shane Burnette and Brad Harrington gave BC a three-point advantage, 47-44 with 2:23. Ricketts netted a lay-up and added a free-throw for a three-point play to tie the game at 47 with 2:04 remaining. The Generals scored their final eight points of the game from the line, hitting 8-of-8 free throws in the final minute, while Bridgewater connected on just one of its five field goal attempts after taking the three-point lead.
