Inside Game Helps W&L Women Past Emu, 71-54

HARRISONBURG, Va. -- Sophomore forward Jessica Mentz (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) poured in 20 first-half points in leading the Washington and Lee women's basketball team to a 71-54 ODAC victory over Eastern Mennonite University on Wednesday evening.

Mentz connected on 10-of-12 first half shots en route to a game-high 22 points. She also snagged 11 rebounds. Alongside Mentz was sophomore center Megan Babst (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel Area), who notched her 10th double-double of the season with 13 points and a team-high 12 rebounds. The Generals' backcourt stepped up as well, with senior guard Ansley Miller (Athens, Ga./Athens Academy) chipping in 11 points and fellow senior Jessica Morton (Midlothian, Va./Clover Hill) tying a school-record with 10 assists. As a team, W&L (13-11, 10-10 ODAC) dished out 21 assists while turning the ball over just 12 times.

EMU (8-14, 7-11 ODAC) was led by Tara Froese, who notched her third double-double of the year with 18 points and 15 rebounds. Emily Mullet and Lori Abbott garnered 12 points apiece in the loss.

The Generals will return to action next Thursday, February 24, most likely at 6:00 pm, as the seventh seed in the ODAC Tournament which is set to be held in Salem, Va.
